Please note that on‑stage seating for the Steinway on Stage - Emma Lang & String Quartet performance has now sold out. General admission seating in the stalls is still available and can be purchased online or directly from the Box Office.

Steinway on Stage is an intimate twilight concert featuring Wangaratta’s magnificent Steinway Grand Piano. Audiences are seated around the piano on the stage of the Alpine MDF Theatre. This performance is a partnership between the Wangaratta Performing Arts & Convention Centre, the Rural City of Wangaratta and the newly formed Goulburn and North East Arts Alliance (GANEAA) Steinway Interest Group – Friends of the Steinway.

Returning to Steinway on Stage in 2026 after her sold-out 2023 appearance, Emma Lang will open the evening with a selection of works for solo piano before welcoming friends from the Wangaratta Symphony Orchestra for a violin–piano duet and a concluding string-quartet performance.

She begins with evocative solo-piano music by Australian composer Bruce Rowland, including selections from The Man from Snowy River. Emma then guides listeners into the poetic world of four beloved Chopin Nocturnes, finishing the first section of the program with one of the most cherished piano works of all time: Debussy’s Clair de Lune.

Next, she joins violinist Margaret Hurd for a vibrant duet arrangement of Brahms’s Hungarian Dance No. 5.

For the final works on the program, Emma switches from piano to cello, performing alongside three friends—fellow section leaders of the Wangaratta Symphony Orchestra—in a spirited string quartet. Together, they will present the first and last movements of Dvořák’s “American” String Quartet: the rustic Allegro ma non troppo and energetic Finale: Vivace ma non troppo.

Join them for an inspiring musical journey featuring some of the best-loved repertoire for solo piano, violin and piano, and string quartet.

Emma Lang trained as a classical musician before pursuing a career in audiology. She completed her LMusA with distinction on both cello and piano during high school, then went on to study cello at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, graduating with a Bachelor of Music Performance. During her studies, she also explored early keyboard instruments, discovering the unique tone colours of the kinds of period keyboards Beethoven, Chopin, and Brahms would have known. She remains deeply grateful to the teachers who guided her musical journey.

One of Emma’s great passions is orchestral music, and she was delighted to join the Wangaratta Symphony Orchestra after moving to the region in 2022 for her work in audiology. There she met many musicians who have become close friends. She is especially pleased to perform cello in a string quartet for this concert with fellow WSO members Sarah Brindley and Margaret Hurd on violin, and Carolyne Amery on viola.
